What Is Your Deepest Fear? Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 October 2006

Is it the creepy little things that were created for a reason on this earth and no that reason is not to scare the living daylights out of you, even though you may think that way? I do sometimes, I mean we all have our fears for some animal or insect, mine are personally spiders. Not so much afraid of them as insects, more afraid have where they might go when I am sleeping, maybe into my ear to lay its precious eggs. I don't care to sit and write about that, as my whole body cringes at just the thought.

So what is fear?
According to the dictionary the word "fear" is; an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

The words "fear for" means; a feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something or the safety and well being of someone.

Now to me, we can have 2 attitudes towards fear. One we can run as far away from it as we can, thus we give up on things because of the fear inside of us. Or we are to scared to even begin new adventures or follow certain dreams because of the fear of maybe not making it or failing at it, before you have even started. Fear can bring out the best but also the worst in a persons attitude towards the word fear. You could loose the chance to meet that special someone or take that friendship into that special friendship level for the fact that you are top scared to put yourself out there to see what could happen. Fear can affect your life in many different areas.

Now the other attitude, which I think, is a hard one, but very important one to have is this; to take charge of fear and use it to challenge you and push you forwards in life. Instead of being afraid of it and letting it hold you back, use that fear to move you forward. So if you are afraid to try a new career or to follow a dream, let that fear push you to work harder at that which you are striving forward to. You could just work hard knowing it might happen, but now you are using the fear of failure and let downs build you stronger and push you to worker harder so that you don’t become over whelmed with fear and stop.

When fear is what holds you back, failure is what kills you. However when you using fear to push you, it changes. When something goes wrong its not a failure it’s a learning curve for the next time you move forward.

I love the lines in a movie called "Coach Carter". There is a troubled teen that is in and out of the game; his pride to be better than other pushes him to work hard in every area of his life, the good and the bad. Coach Carter keeps pushing this teen to a place where he cannot do things on his own, something is holding him back and so Coach Carter keeps asking the same question every time before practice starts: What is your deepest fear son?
This is his response:

Timo Cruz:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Lets not let fear control our lives, lets ask Jesus to help us have control over our fears and to give us the strength to work through them and to go on to do better things than we imagine. Lets use the fear to push us to do greater things. . .
