WHAT TIME ARE YOUR SERVICES? Our Sunday services nurture the spiritual search of people investigating the claims of Jesus Christ and encourage the growth of those already enjoying a personal relationship with Christ. Sunday Morning: The Sunday morning service starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 11:15 a.m. There is a Sunday School programme for children ages 2 to 13 during this time. There is also a staffed nursery for children under the age of 2 years. Sunday Evening: The Sunday evening service starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends around 7:30 p.m. Midweek: Life Groups take place on various days and times throughout the week. Life Groups provide an opportunity for you to make new friends and deepen your spiritual walk in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. There are also midweek programmes for children, junior high, youth, and young adults. HOW DO I GET TO YOUR CHURCH? Sunday services are held at the Orillia Christian School. The school is visible from the Highway #12 bypass between Gill St. and High St. You access the driveway into the parking lot off Gill St. at the intersection of Gill St. and Highway #12. See a Map... Please phone the church office (329-2139) if you need further details. WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A SERVICE? People like you who are trying to be real with God! We sing to contemporary music, use multimedia presentations, enter into God’s Story creatively and dramatically, and reflect on practical messages aimed at real life issues. We aim to present the timeless truths of Scripture in relevant ways that are easily understood by spiritual beginners and seasoned followers alike. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual with services lasting about an hour and fifteen minutes. When you attend, we don’t make you say anything, sign anything, give anything, or single you out. Though we do take an offering, we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give — the service is our gift to you! WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? We’re more concerned with meeting your real life needs and an authentic encounter with God than with what you wear. On a typical Sunday morning you’ll find everything from shorts and sandals to dress shirts and ties. Most people dress casually. HOW DO CHILDREN AND YOUTH FIT IN? Very well! We love children and youth and they love being a part of OCC! The Sunday morning children’s ministry provides an exciting, quality experience for your children from birth to grade 8. The children are dismissed about 15 minutes into the service and their programmes are then held simultaneously with the adult service. We encourage you to send your children to their age appropriate groups – we know they’ll enjoy it. There is also a Sunday evening children’s ministry that runs concurrently with the adult service. To find out more about the KFC (Kids for Christ -- grades 1 to 5), Junior High (grades 6 to 8), or R.I.O.T. Youth programmes see the drop down menu under "Ministries." WHAT DOES THE CHURCH BELIEVE? Though non-traditional in style, Orillia Community Church is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. Our desire is to know and be known by Christ, to love and be loved by Christ, to live in obedience to God’s Word, to express our heart-felt worship to God, to build genuine relationships, to walk humbly with God, and to extend compassion and grace to everyone. OCC is a nondenominational Christian church (affiliated with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and Vision Ministries Canada) uniting people from diverse backgrounds (Catholic, Protestant, the spiritually curious, sceptical, etc.) into a loving church family. We are a community endeavouring to serve those who know God (Christians) and those who are on the way to knowing God. We are a safe place for people looking for answers to their spiritual questions. If you want to check out Christianity without anyone pressuring you, then we’re the church for you. We are also a church where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ are encouraged and equipped in their spiritual growth. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, OCC is a spiritual home for you. HOW CAN I GET CONNECTED? There are many ways for people to connect. The OCC Life Groups are an ideal way to connect relationally. Check out the drop down menu under the “Ministries” section of this website for descriptions and details of other ways you can connect with groups of people. Another way to connect is to get involved. OCC provides many opportunities for people to serve that not only give an outlet for your gifts and passions, but also puts you in close proximity with others. Service opportunities are listed in the weekly bulletin. Many people connect informally through the social functions that take place throughout the year. Please remember, connecting is a process that takes different lengths of time for each person. It also involves more than Orillia Community Church. It involves you. So when you are ready to connect, get out there and try something. And if you find you need help, feel free to call the church office. That is why we are here. HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER? The first step is to enroll in the Church Life course that is taught regularly in one of our Life Groups. While taking this course you should meet with the pastor so that we can get to know you and you can get to know us a bit better. All those serving in an elected office (i.e. a Leadership Team member), or in a leadership capacity in a ministry, must be a member. As well, those who wish to actively participate in church business decisions must be a member. |
